Incremental development of multiple tool models for robotic reaching through autonomous exploration

چکیده
Autonomy and flexibility are two major requirements for modern robots. In particular, humanoid robots should learn new skills incrementally through autonomous exploration, and adapt to di erent contexts. In this paper we consider the problem of learning forward models for task space control under dynamically varying kinematic contexts: the robot learns incrementally and autonomously its forward kinematics under di erent contexts, represented by the inclusion of di erent tools, and exploits the learned model to realize reaching with those tools. We model the forward kinematics as a multi-valued function, in which di erent outputs for the same input query are related to di erent tools (i.e. contexts). The model is estimated using IMLE, a recent online learning algorithm for multi-valued regression, and used for control. No information is given about the tool changes, nor any assumption is made about the tool kinematics. Results are provided both in simulation and with a full-body humanoid. In the latter case we show how the robot successfully performs reaching using a flexible tool, a clear example of complex kinematics.

Incremental Robot Shaping I Title : Incremental Robot
We propose a modular architecture for autonomous robots which allows for the implementation of basic behavioral modules by both programming and training, and accommodates for an evolutionary development of the interconnections among modules. This architecture can implement highly complex controllers and allows for incremental shaping of the robot behavior. Our proposal is exempli ed and evaluat...

Intrinsically motivated spontaneous exploration is a key enabler of autonomous lifelong learning in human children. It allows them to discover and acquire large repertoires of skills through self-generation, self-selection, self-ordering and self-experimentation of learning goals. We present the unsupervised multi-goal reinforcement learning formal framework as well as an algorithmic approach c...

Infrastructure support for robotic colonies, Mars habitat for humans, and/or robotic exploration of planetary surfaces will need to rely on the field deployment of multiple robust robots. This support includes such tasks as the deployment and servicing of power systems and in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) generators, establishing long-life robotic science stations for measurement and communi...
متن کاملIntelligent Mapping for Autonomous Robotic Survey
In general today’s planetary exploration robots do not travel beyond the previous day’s imagery. However, advances in autonomous navigation will soon permit traverses of multiple kilometers. These long traverses present new challenges to science-driven exploration. Rovers will travel over their local horizon so that scientists will not be able to specify targets in advance. Moreover, energy and...
